Grateful For Our Roots

We begin by showing our gratitude to the man who started it all, William Tackett. The foundation of Heartland Catfish’s success was built decades ago when William Tackett began working for one penny per day at six years old. In 1968, Tackett built his first catfish pond in Humphreys County in the Mississippi Delta, known as Tackett Fish Farms. The farming operation continued to grow, resulting in Mr. Tackett, his son William Tackett and his son-in-law Joe Walker founding Heartland Catfish Company in 1996. Thanks to Tackett’s hard work and dedication, a high level of excellence was established for years to come.

Heartland Catfish Company is the largest vertically integrated entities in the U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish industry, which would not be possible without our fantastic team. From the ponds to the processing plant to the office, each member of our staff plays a huge role in our continued success. We’re especially grateful to our farmers, whose dedication and innovation drive our sustainable practices and ensure top-quality catfish for our customers. Thanks to our hardworking processing plant staff, we can process up to 25,000 pounds of catfish every hour—ensuring a standard of efficiency to meet customer needs. Lastly, to our office team, thank you for keeping operations running smoothly every day. Together, we continue the legacy and embody the values established for Heartland Catfish Company.
