When Is Catfish Season?

Tailoring eating habits and preferences according to the season is an instinct that is often conditioned that we as consumers abide by that we might not realize. Professional chefs use seasonal availability to create quality menus, while grocery shoppers follow seasonal food patterns to guide their purchasing decisions. When thinking about seasonal shopping and most importantly seasonal eating, it’s easy to think of fruits and vegetables, but what about seafood? This begs the question, what season is catfish season?

Does Catfish Have a Season?

Does catfish have a season? The answer is no. U.S. Farmed-Raised Catfish does not have a season. According to Spruce Eats, fish seasonality is dependent on natural breeding and migratory patterns. Farm-raised fish are not dependent on migratory patterns because they are harvested year-round and regulated to provide ideal quality and harvesting conditions.

To ensure successful harvesting operations, a properly constructed pond is required for catfish producers according to Mississippi State University. Heartland Catfish are raised in man-made, freshwater ponds that use the latest farming and management practices. Since our catfish are farm-raised, Heartland Catfish eliminates groundwater pollution creating safe artificial wetland habitats with maximum control over pond conditions and taste, while avoiding contribution to overfishing natural lakes and rivers. Heartland Catfish products are available year-round, making all seasons of the year the best time to consume catfish.

Farm-Raised Catfish is Not a Seasonal Fish – Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter – It’s Always a Good Time for Catfish

Unlike several types of fish, Heartland catfish can be enjoyed all year-round. The beauty of a non-seasonal fish is that it can be prepared for any occasion because it is widely available and typically less expensive. Looking to spruce up a winter soup? Wanting to dress up a summer salad? Catfish might just be your answer. With a multitude of ways to prepare catfish and 12 months to shop for it, it’s time you give Heartland Catfish a taste!
