From one catfish pond to hundreds – plus a 135,000-square-foot processing facility – over the course of 30 years Heartland Catfish Company has grown into one of the largest vertically integrated catfish processors in the country. As we commemorate this exciting milestone, we reflect on the journey taken to reach 30 years in business and eagerly look ahead to the future.
Reflecting on 30 Years in Business
This year, Heartland Catfish will celebrate 30 years of business. It all started with our founder, William Tackett, and his core principles, which have grown Heartland Catfish into the trusted U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish provider it is today. Currently, Tackett Fish Farms supplies more than 67% of the catfish processed by Heartland Catfish Company. Our ongoing growth allows us to package catfish from live fish to product in less than 30 minutes, and every hour, to freeze 25,000 pounds of catfish thanks to our freezer capacity – the largest in the market. In 1996, we processed 12 million pounds of catfish in a year; we now process more than 55 million pounds of catfish each year.

Last fall, Heartland Catfish was featured on ABC News’s 50 States in 50 Weeks, where we represented the great state of Mississippi as a part of the series celebrating America as we approach the nation’s 250th birthday this year.
